About Knutsford

Knutsford is our key area and is a central ‘hub’ to multiple other villages and parishes. A historic, Cheshire market town, Knutsford was recorded in William the Conqueror’s Domesday Book of 1086 as Cunetesford (“Canute’s ford“). Local tradition says that King Canute blessed a wedding that was taking place and forded the River Lily. Knutsford now forms part of Cheshire’s famous ‘Golden Triangle’.

There is a strong base of older properties, some dating back to the 16th Century. A large core of Town Centre homes is formed by Victorian and Edwardian properties, but Knutsford has been well served by post-war development across multiple decades, to now provide a thriving and varied community.

The Town Centre retains its market town feel, with plenty of independent shops, bars and restaurants, served by Knutsford Rail Station. Surrounded by open countryside, you’re never too far from green space and the National Trust’s Tatton Park has its entrance right in the Town, within easy walk for visitors and local residents.

Knutsford offers housing of all types, from two bedroom flats and terraced houses, all the way up to larger, detached houses with land and gardens, making it ideal for any demographic. It is conveniently positioned within an easy drive of Hale, Alderley Edge and Wilmslow Town Centres.

With its historic feel and various conservation areas, Knutsford maintains a beautiful country aspect, blended with some modern touches. Surrounded by green space, country walks and bike rides are always just on your door step.

Knutsford’s eating and drinking scene is the envy of many towns over. From casual brunch spots to high-end Italian restaurants, there is no shortage of dining options in the town. There is also a great mix of cosy pubs and lively bars.

Whether you’re looking for an easy Friday night chippy, or somewhere to get your Sunday roast after a stroll in Tatton Park, Knutsford has everything you’re looking for.

In addition to the open countryside that surrounds Knutsford, with its woodland walks and bike rides, the Town is supported by some stunning green spaces of its own.

Predominantly, the National Trust’s Tatton Park has its main entrance right at the heart of Knutsford Town Centre. With 50 acres of landscaped gardens and 1,000 acres of deer park including beautiful woodland, lakes and meres, Tatton Park offers a stunning backdrop whether for full days out or your daily dog walk. It also offers many events throughout the year and hosts the RHS Flower Show.

The Heath, once the home of a prestigious race course, is now a large reserve of almost 30 acres right in the Town Centre. Perfect for picnics and daily dog walks, The Heath also hosts various events throughout the year.

The Moor is the southern tip of Tatton Park and now forms a beautiful public park, with a playground, grass and picnic benches.

Knutsford is conveniently positioned within an easy drive of Hale, Alderley Edge and Wilmslow Town Centres. Further transport links are in easy reach, with the M56 and M6 being within just a few minutes’ drive.

The main roads through Knutsford are serviced by local bus routes, with a small depot at Booths supermarket.

Knutsford Rail Station enjoys a prominent position on Toft Road and Adams Hill, and sits on the Manchester to Chester line.
